The University of Edinburgh also maintains accounts on a number of online platforms to share open educational resources created by staff and students under the Open.Ed banner.

Media Hopper Create

We have over 500 high quality videos created for our MOOCs and open online courses, which are available to reuse from our Open Media Bank on Media Hopper Create: https://media.ed.ac.uk/channel/Open+Media+Bank/

We also have a number of channels that host openly licensed content including:

  • Creative Commons – Creative commons and publicly viewable media created by staff and students right across the University.
  • Open.Ed – the OER Service’s open educational resources channel
  • Open Media Bank –  a collection of high quality media created for the University’s MOOCs and online courses, published under open licence for sharing, reuse and remixing.
  • Open Media Snippets –  a collection of openly licensed media snippets for use in all kinds of creative projects.
  • Wikimedian in Residence – digital skills media resources created by our Wikimedian in Residence to support the use of Wikimedia in the classroom, and engagement with the Wikimedia projects.

TES Resources

TES Resources is an online platform where teachers and educators can discover and share original teaching and learning resources. Its focus is on sharing materials for primary and secondary schools, and up to early undergraduate education levels.

The University of Edinburgh shares a wide range of free customisable resources for use in primary and secondary schools, many of which have been created by the School of Geosciences Outreach course. All resources are accompanied by Curriculum for Excellence learning objectives and outcomes and can be downloaded and used free of charge from the University of Edinburgh Open.Ed Shop.

Sketchfab

Sketchfab is the leading platform to publish and find 3D and VR content online.You can upload files in almost any 3D format, licence, and then embed them on any web page, and share them on other platforms like Tumblr, WordPress, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.

We have two collections currently on Sketchfab; one includes 3D animal skeletons and skulls from the Royal (Dick) Veterinary School, and the other includes 3D renderings of artefacts from the University of Edinburgh archives.

YouTube

YouTube is the worlds largest online video sharing platform. YouTube offers two types of licences for videos uploaded to the platform, including the Creative Commons Attribution licence.

  • OpenEdinburgh YouTube Channel – has over 300 videos, many from our various MOOCs.
  • Data Library – The Edinburgh University Data Library has created multiple videos as part of their MANTRA MOOC, a free online course for those who manage digital data as part of their research project.
  • Supercytes – This playlist from the Interactive Content team hosts supplementary videos for the Supercytes card game and resource pack about having fun with Biology and encouraging an early interest in science.

Flickr

Flickr is an online photo management and sharing platform with wide international use. Flickr provides the option of applying Creative Commons licences to any photographs uploaded to the platform.
