OER Digital Skills Semester 1

We have a new format for our Digital Skills workshops and information sessions this semester.

Quick Start

Using feedback from our friendly learning technologists and previous session attendees we’ve created a set of four short 30 minute Quick Start information sessions that will be run twice over the semester.

  1. Copyright and Exceptions Quick Start: A short introduction to UK Copyright and Exceptions, September 13th and November 6th from 12noon to 12:30pm
  2. Creative Commons Quick Start: A short introduction to using Creative Commons licences, September 18th and November 13th from 12noon to 12:30pm
  3.  OER Quick Start: A short introduction to Open Educational Resources (OER), October 11th and December 4th from 12noon to 12:30pm.
  4.  Open Textbooks Quick Start: A short introduction to Open Textbooks, October 25th and December 11th from 12noon to 12:30pm.

Transforming the Curriculum with OER and Open Education

We will also be running a longer form 1hr information session on Open Education in the curriculum. In this session we will look at the ways in which open educational practices and open educational resources are being used across the university and the benefits this provides.

This will run on September 20th from 12noon to 1pm.

OER in the Curriculum: Teaching with Wikipedia

This 1hr event run by our Wikimedian In Residence, Ewan McAndrew, will showcase best practice teaching with Wikipedia from working with course programmes at the University of Edinburgh over the last 7 years along with exemplars from other UK universities.

This will run on November 22nd from 4-5pm.

OER: GIF it Up – Introduction to GIF Making

Putting our creativity into action in this introductory 1hr workshop you will be guided through the steps to create your very own GIF using images and materials from University of Edinburgh Museum, library, and archival materials.

This will run on October 4th from 12noon to 1pm.
