SDGs: Stories of impact
Launched during Global Goals Week in September, ‘SDGs: Stories of impact’ is an exploratory publication from University and tells stories of some of the University’s meaningful contributions to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) over the past five years.
The University of Edinburgh and Students’ Association signed the Sustainable Development Goals Accord in 2017. The purpose of the Accord is to inspire, celebrate and advance the critical role that education has in delivering the Sustainable Development Goals and the value it brings to governments, business and wider society.
‘SDGs: Stories of impact’ has collected University-wide case studies across all 17 Sustainable Development Goals, under the themes of:
- Operations
- Community
- Teaching and learning
- Partnerships
- Research
The uplifting stories captured in this publication are a just flavour of different activities happening across our University community. You can spot references to some of the OER activities across the University in there too!

The Sustainable Development Goals are important to the OER Service too. We believe that open educational resources play an important role in supporting our vision, purpose and values; to discover knowledge and make the world a better place, and to ensure our teaching and research is diverse, inclusive, accessible to all and relevant to society.
In line with the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Educational Resources we also believe that OER can make a critical contribution to achieving the aims of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals which the University and Students Association are committed to through the SDG Accord.

If you’re interested in where our OERs intersect with specific SDGs, we’ve created a page on our site and listed them for ease of educators wishing to find SDG aligned resources. All OERs have also been tagged with the relevant SDG and number for searching or identifying purposes.
