In honour of International Women’s Day 2021, the Digital Skills team have created a reading list comprising books, articles and essays seeking to empower women in the digital age and shed light on women’s online experiences. Over the past year, the Covid-19 pandemic has exposed the heavily gendered nature of online abuse and harassment. The texts included in the reading list draw attention to issues of online equity and the need to reframe discussions surrounding online harassment through an intersectional lens.

The resource list comprises 28 texts divided into three sections:

  • Books & Book Chapters
  • Journal Articles
  • Web Articles & Publications

The list was compiled by Vicki Madden, Digital Safety Support Officer in the Digital Skills and Training team, as an openly licensed resource to raise awareness about gendered online harassment. In keeping with the #ChoosetoChallenge theme of this year’s International Women’s Day, the reading list seeks to highlight barriers to women’s equality online while urging the University community to rally together to support those who have been the target of digital abuse.

You can access the resource list through the University Resource Lists service (no login required) or download it as a static PDF.
