Sanctuary 2024: Audio Learning Environment

Stone monastery ruins

Created by Brian Mather as part of the Digital Futures course for the MSc in Digital Education, ‘Sanctuary 2024: Audio Learning Environment’ provides auditory experiences around a historical site in the town of Peebles in the Scottish Borders. The site has been a place of religious significance from 1261 as it was the home of a monastery where monks practices mindfulness, reflection and meditation as part of their religious devotions.

The resource encourages reflection on how these practices could help with learning, and acts as a sanctuary for critical and emotional reflection.

Learning objectives:

  1. Understand how mindful practices can be established in virtual simulation and in learning.
  2.  Envisage a technological future that provides space for humanity and nature.
  3.  Be able to identify inclusive approaches to learning practice in digital learning.
  4. Reflect on the importance of sound in learning.
