New Digital Skills sessions launching this week
This week the OER Service is launching three new online digital skills sessions for staff and postgraduates at the University of Edinburgh. All sessions are free to attend and can be booked from Event Bookings. Information about all OER Service events is available from our Events page. Teaching resources from all three sessions will be shared under open licence as OERs for all to download and re-use.
Creative Commons Quick Start: A short introduction to using CC licences
Confused by Creative Commons? At a loss about licences? Bewildered by attribution?
If you’re new to Creative Commons licences or simply need a quick refresher, this Quick Start 30 minute information session will provide a brief introduction to Creative Commons, covering all the main licence types, and show you how to quickly and easily apply CC licences to content in Learn, Media Hopper Create, Blogs.Ed and Powerpoint.
Starting on Tuesday 18th August, this session is taught by Lorna M. Campbell and runs twice a month in Blackboard Collaborate.
OER and Open Education
OER and open education are important aspects of teaching and community at the University and have become increasingly important during times of crisis. This one hour information session introduces the concepts of OER and open education, explores the University’s OER vision, policy, and service, and highlights some of the many benefits of engaging with OER with examples drawn from colleagues across the institution.
Starting on Wednesday 19th August, this session is taught by Lorna M. Campbell and Stephanie (Charlie) Farley and runs once a month in Blackboard Collaborate.
Building Blocks of UK Copyright and Exceptions

This 1hr training course provides an introduction to copyright covering:
- Components and duration of UK copyright law
- Public domain
- UK copyright exceptions related to teaching & research
- Licences and how they allow specific re-use of copyright protected works
- Copyright risk assessment
Starting on Wednesday 20th of August, this session is taught by Stephanie (Charlie) Farley and runs once a month in Blackboard Collaborate.
