A warm welcome for a wet and weary Father Christmas, from an 1872 edition of Punch magazine.Punch, or The London Charivari was a British weekly magazine of humour and satire established in 1841 by Henry Mayhew and engraver Ebenezer Landells.

The comic is titled ‘Wet, But Welcome’ and text underneath the image reads:

Mrs Bull. “La! Father Christmas, You’ve only to get into your dry clothes and take plenty of this, and you’ll be merry enough, I warrant!”.
